Actively involving children and young people in the design of their schools and neighbourhoods.

Empowerment and Participation.

When children have opportunities to take part in the design of their communities, they feel valued, and develop a sense of belonging, manaakitanga and kaitiakitanga for their local environments.

Gather Foundation offers curriculum-aligned, co-design programmes, focused on creating outdoor structures and environments, at no cost to schools. We work alongside tamariki aged 5-12.

Offering

Our programmes are available to Ōtautahi primary schools who need support to revive their outdoor environments. We partner with primary schools who want to involve tamariki and whānau in the creation of new outdoor spaces.

Co-design and education expertise

Gather Foundation is led by registered landscape architects and skilled co-design and education experts. Three programmes with primary school children - Place Cadets, have already been delivered successfully by Trust members within Ōtautahi.

Community participation

We involve local volunteers and help generate community support to bring projects to life, as envisioned by the children and young people we work alongside. Through fundraising, local sponsorship, community partnerships and volunteer skills, we deliver projects at no cost to schools in need.

Gather Foundation is a registered charitable trust with Charities Services New Zealand (No. CC57730).

“My daughter tells all her friends that she designed it, and other children from the neighbourhood are now using the Imaginarium. It’s more popular than the local playground.”
